Design

The design can be abstract or representational depending on taste and the architectural style of the building. I like to work with my clients from the outset by visiting the site to discuss what might work in the space, to produce some preliminary drawings, and then choose with the client from samples provided which colours and textures are suitable.

Once the design is drawn to scale, different coloured pieces of glass are cut to shape, and then joined together (as illustrated) using lead cames. When all the pieces are assembled, the lead is soldered at the joints and the leaded panel is sealed with a semi liquid putty cement.

Different coloured pieces of glass can also be fused together at high temperatures in a kiln. I like to incorporate fused and acid etched pieces into a leaded panel, as this extends the design possibilities of the medium.

Costing is very much determined by the nature of the design process, and will vary depending on the complexity of the work. Preliminary estimates can be provided on request.
