Design and costing

Drawing

Windows are a primary source of light and are often the focal point of a room. Stained glass panels in windows and doors combine colour, light and texture to enhance an interior space. The panel can also act as a screen, if for example the view is not appealing, or if more privacy is required, or simply as a decorative feature.

The design can be abstract or representational depending on taste and the architectural style of the building. I like to work with my clients from the outset by visiting the site to discuss what might work in the space, to produce some preliminary drawings, and then choose with the client from samples provided which colours and textures are suitable.

Composition

Costing is very much determined by the nature of the design process. The simpler the design, the cheaper the panel will be. An average costing for design and construction is from 60 to 180 pounds per square foot (metric equivalent approx 30cm x 30cm).
